NuShield Spine:
Frequently Asked Questions |
1. What is NuShield?
Nu NuShield is a protective patch derived from the amniotic membrane.
2. Where is NuShield Used?
In the posterior approach the graft is placed stromal (sticky) side down in contact with the dura and ensure nerve root coverage. In the anterior approach the graft may be placed onto the vertebral body stromal side down. The graft can be positioned to maintain separation from the peritoneum, greater vessels and abdominal musculature.
3. How Does NuShield Work?
The amnion works as a protective barrier interface between the dura and surrounding tissues and is a biologic scaffold for cells to migrate across. On the sticky side of the amnion, studies suggest that the amnion tissue suppresses differentiation of myofibroblasts through the down regulation of the TGFβ signaling system.
4. NuShield FDA status?
NuShield is regulated by the FDA as a 361 tissue product (HCT/P).
5. How is NuShield sterilized?
NuShield is terminally sterilized with the Purion Process and E beam radiation.
6. How is NuShield stored?
NuShield is stored at room temperature and has a five year shelf life. NuShield is a dehydrated graft.
7. Is amnion safe?
Over 30,000 implanted without report of any adverse event related to the graft.
8. How is NuShield applied?
NuShield can be cut to size while dry out of the package and applied directly to the target tissue with the embossment reading SB from left to right on applied tissue.
